Subject: Feature Request: Unlisted Repository Visibility Option

Hello GitHub Team,

I would like to suggest a feature that could significantly improve repository sharing and privacy on GitHub.

Currently, repositories can only be Public or Private. If we want to share a repository with a few people without adding them as collaborators, the only option is to make it Public, which exposes the repository to the entire internet.

I would like to propose an “Unlisted Repository” visibility option, similar to YouTube’s Unlisted videos.

How it would work:

• The repository is not searchable on GitHub or search engines.
• It does not appear on the user’s public profile or repository listings.
• Only people with the direct link can access and view the repository.
• It would allow developers to easily share projects with recruiters, teammates, or clients without making them fully public.

Benefits:

• Better privacy control for developers.
• Easier sharing for portfolios, demos, and temporary collaborations.
• Prevents accidental exposure of projects while still allowing convenient access.

I believe this feature would be very helpful for students, developers, and teams who want controlled visibility without full public exposure.
