Keyword: when should you move from help center to docs-as-code

Article plan

Format: Diagnostic guide — a decision framework for teams evaluating whether to migrate, built around specific organizational signals rather than a general comparison.

Thesis: The move from help center to docs-as-code is fundamentally about which direction of friction costs you more: friction for developers contributing, or friction for non-developers contributing.

Promptless connection: Moving to docs-as-code removes one barrier to contribution but doesn't close the gap between when a product changes and when docs reflect that. That's a monitoring problem Promptless solves regardless of which system you're in.

### You need concurrent documentation for multiple software versions

Help centers have article-level restore, not branching. Maintaining v1 and v2 API docs simultaneously in a help center has no clean answer. Git does. If your team is shipping multiple concurrent versions and manually juggling content between articles, this alone justifies the move.

This does not read true. There are docs version selectors in docs platforms. The idea of maintaining different versions of docs on difference branch does not come through if you intended it to.
