Unable to Log Into Github

What happened

I installed the package into VS and when trying to connect to GitHub through the Hosted Service Provider the application times out. Never opens a dialog box for login credentials.

Steps to Reproduce

Steps to reproduce the behavior:

1. Install GitHub installed
2. Click on 'Connect' in Team Explorer Dialog Box
3. See error

Expected behavior

I would expect a login to appear allowing me to enter my GitHub credentials

Hi @kbrimberry7 also from Team Explorer - Connect you can select Manage Connections -> Connect to GitHub, or go to File -> Open -> Open from GitHub... to bring up the Sign in dialog. Do either of these options work for you?

i have the same problem: My VS2017 Community Edition version is 15.9.5 and GitHub extension installed version is 2.7.0.6566. I've tried both ways to login to GitHub from Visual Studio, but nothing happens.

I'm using Visual Studio 2015 and the two different ways to connect aren't showing a login form and they aren't showing an error. Where's the Logs section to which you referred?

@Camios @kbrimberry7 We're trying to track this problem down. Could you provide some additional information?

• Do you have any other versions of Visual Studio installed?
• Does the extension work on any other installed version?
• What other extensions do you have installed in VS? A list is available in Help -> About.

There's also a chance this is a caching issue, and reinstalling the extension might help. You can download the latest GitHub.VisualStudio.vsix or any previous releases from our releases page at https://github.com/github/VisualStudio/releases.

I hope these further informations can help.

When i try to Connect to GitHub version 2.7.0.6566 just clicking to Connect it doesn't log anything.
If i try to connect from manage connections -> Connect to GitHub it does log errors.
First time i clicked it gave me EROR [31], second time EROR [17].
You can see full error stackTrace in the attachment below.

I've tried to revert GitHub extention to previous version 2.6 and it works fine. I can connect without errors. I have currently installed VS2017 Community Edition (updated to 15.9.5). It seems to be a problem with the last GitHub extension release 2.7.

I have no other versions of VS installed on my computer.
If you need the list of extensions installed on my VS let me know.

I inherited the laptop. I performed fresh install of Visual Studio 2015 Professional Update 3, on Windows 7 Professional x64 with SP1.
From what I can tell:
No other VS versions were installed.
No other extensions were installed.
